The game follows the deer and fawn as they embark on their mission to return home. Along their journey, they are gifted with a power of light which allows them to clean up the mess left behind in environments seeped in oil and discover new sparks. The story is a complex one full of mystery and excitement as players get to explore an unknown world with their two protagonists.
Way to the Woods offers players a linear, short game experience with lots of exploration opportunities. Players are able to explore handcrafted environments while controlling both characters at once - one with a controller and the other with mouse and keyboard controls - as they attempt to reach their destination together. As they progress through levels, they will be able to grow their light, giving them new abilities and furthering their journey.
Along the way, they will encounter various puzzles and obstacles that will require them to use teamwork to solve. Along the way, they will also meet other creatures who may help or hinder them on their journey. As they progress through the game, players will be able to learn more about the characters and the world they inhabit, as well as gain insight into why they have been separated from their herd.
The graphics in Way to the Woods are stunning, taking inspiration from popular films such as Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and The Last of Us. The visuals are highly detailed with vibrant colours that bring life into this abandoned world full of mystery.
