Gameplay Mechanics
The First Descendant offers players gameplay mechanics in the style of Destiny 2 and Warframe. You must complete each level's mission to advance the main story, where you shoot down aliens with large health bars. Before proceeding to the main mission in each chapter, you need to complete a few side missions and open the paths that will allow you to reach the main mission. This not only offers players the chance to obtain new weapons and weapon parts but also makes the levels last longer. Thus, you can enjoy hunting aliens with your developed character and weapons. Moreover, you can collect the modules you need to level up your characters and increase the damage of your weapons this way.
The First Descendant features 12 characters with different abilities and roles. Each character comes with one unique passive ability, three active abilities, and one ultimate ability. By default, you must use the C, V, X, and B keys to use your active abilities. To use these abilities, you need to pay attention to the blue bar at the bottom of your character's ability interface. This bar is equivalent to mana or energy in fantasy games; if it reaches the bottom, you cannot use any more abilities. You can also perform a melee attack or use items like grappling hooks to quickly change position on the map. This item is useful for getting to heights you can't normally reach or avoiding area attacks by quickly changing position.
Each character has different playstyles since they have different skill sets. For example, the Bunny character offers fast gameplay where you have to dive into the enemies. You also need characters with a specific element to complete some missions. For example, in one of the side missions of the game, you need to use the lightning element of the Bunny character to activate the platform.
Enemy Designs
The First Descendant offers enemies with different abilities and attack schemes. Although The First Descendant bosses do not have as challenging and complex attack schemes as a Souls game, some of them have annoying abilities such as not immunity and regeneration. However, we can say that the game's boss room designs are both impressive and easy to understand. Moreover, it is often possible to understand what you need to do without making any extra effort. Additionally, if you run out of ammunition in boss battles, you can walk around and collect extra bullets and bombs to replenish your stock. In other words, The First Descendant treats players generously with ammo.
Atmosphere and Visual Design
According to the story of The First Descendant, it is a game that takes place in space, and people with different abilities participate in operations. In the story, the environmental and atmospheric design of the game reflects the emptiness and infinity of space. Moreover, each boss in the game has a room and atmosphere design suitable for its theme. Since the game takes place in a period with high-tech armor and weapons, the main base and safe areas also have a futuristic design. If you are looking for a space and technology-themed universe and are interested in shooter games, The First Descendant has a visual that will satisfy you.
Descendants
The First Descendant comes with 12 characters with different abilities and elemental powers. But unless you buy a slot, you can only get 10 characters. Each character has gameplay features such as tank, damage dealer, support, assassin. Each character has one passive, one ultimate, and three active abilities. Descendants’ abilities vary depending on the element they are prone to and their equipment. Additionally, each character has unique equipment. Additionally, each character has a set of equipment from which they get their powers. For example, Freyna can use her poison abilities and continue to deal constant damage to her opponents thanks to her "Neutralization Suit".
You have two main ways to unlock descendants and start improving them. The first of these is purchasing, which is the method by which you can unlock the descendant immediately. The advantage of this method is that you do not need to loot or research to unlock the character you want. But for a free-to-play game, you need to deposit money. The other method is to find the NPC named Anais and open the research tree for characters. Each character requires different items and in-game money. The biggest disadvantage of this method is that you have to wait for the research period for the descendants to be unlocked, even if you have all the items. While basic characters require less resources, research time and money, ultimate characters require more research time, resources, and money.
Customization and Upgrades
Each character in the game has 6 different costume slots. These costume slots are as follows: Body Skin, Head Skin, Makeup, Chest Attachment, and Back Attachment. Although some of the costumes are sold as single pieces, the majority are sold as a set. Once purchased, you can combine different parts of the costumes to create a special character and highlight your aesthetic.
You have several different methods to level up your characters and increase their power. The first of these methods is to increase the level of your character and boost their general stats by participating in missions. The second method is to increase your character's mastery level. As your mastery level increases, your character's statistics such as modules and carrying capacity will increase.
The third method to improve your character is modules. Modules are divided into two: talent module and auxiliary module. Skill modules are used to strengthen or evolve the abilities your character uses. Sub modules allow you to improve your different stats, from the damage you deal with weapons to your movement speed. The last method to improve your character is to give them better weapons. Each weapon has its own level and module capacity. You can use your character with maximum efficiency by finding weapons that suit your playing style and character.
