I Really Felt Sorry About Aloy
After coming of age, Aloy enters a contest called The Proving to win the right to become a member of the Nora tribe. Aloy wins the competition, but Nora is attacked by cultists. Aloy is nearly killed by their leader, Helis, but Rost sacrifices herself to save him.When Aloy awakens, a Matriarch reveals that cultists have taken control of the corrupted machines. Aloy learns that she was found under a sealed door when she was a baby. Oseram stranger Olin informs Aloy that the cultists are part of a rebellious Carja group called Eclipse, and Aloy's Dr. states that she was targeted for her resemblance to an Old World scientist named Elisabet Sobeck.
Aloy finds the ruins of the Faro Automated Solutions company and discovers that the ancient world was destroyed nearly 1,000 years before Faro lost control of his automated peacekeeping military robots. Robots that can self-replicate and consume biomass as fuel have invaded the planet and depleted the biosphere, depriving the Earth of all life. Dr. Project Zero Dawn, a top-secret project spearheaded by Sobeck, was a plan to create an automated terraforming system that would eventually shut down the robots and bring Earth back to life.
Aloy contacts Sylens, an undercover figure who is interested in uncovering what happened to the Ancients. Aloy finally gets Dr. He learns that Sobeck has been sent to an Orbital Launch Base to complete Zero Dawn, and Sylens reveals that the base is below the Hold, which is the seat of the Eclipse power. Aloy heads to the base, enters, and learns that Zero Dawn is a vast underground system of databases, factories, and cloning facilities controlled by a single artificial intelligence, GAIA.
After life ends, GAIA has developed a countermeasure to disable all Faro robots and create their own robots to restore Earth's biosphere. When the planet became habitable again, GAIA re-seeded life on Earth based on stored DNA and taught the first human clones not to repeat the past mistakes of their predecessors. But APOLLO, the system designed to teach new people, was sabotaged in a fit of nihilism by Faro founder and CEO Theodore Faro, and Cradle-born people were reduced to a tribe, a subsistence society.
HADES was one of GAIA's subsystems designed to enact its controlled extinction if the outcome of Zero Dawn was not conducive to human existence. Dr. Arriving at Sobeck's office, Aloy downloads a logbook to allow her access to the gate where she was born. He is captured by Helis and sentenced to death at the Hold, but escapes with Sylens' help. Aloy helps the Nora tribe fight the Eclipse and finds herself at the gate under Nora mountain.
Coming to an end...
She finds a recording that reveals that an unknown signal left behind by GAIA caused HADES to activate and take control of its functions. As a last resort, GAIA self-destructs to stop HADES. Without GAIA to sustain the terraforming process, the entire system starts to fail. As a contingency plan, GAIA has Dr. created a clone of Sobeck
Aloy learns that Dr. Sabaek sacrificed his life to ensure that Faro robots can’t find the GAIA. Aloy manages to get the master override needed to destroy HADES. Meanwhile, Sylens admits to being the original founder of Eclipse and is actually lured by HADES' promises of knowledge. Aloy speculates that with Sylens' help, HADES is intended to send a signal to reactivate the Faro robots and extinguish all life on Earth once again.
Aloy kills Helix and helps fight waves of corrupted machines before stabbing HADES with Sylens' spear and ending the battle by activating the main override. Dr. He goes to Sobeck's old house, finds his body, and mourns for a moment for his predecessor. In a post-credits scene, HADES is shown to be still alive, but ambushed by Sylens, who plans to interrogate HADES to find out who sent the signal that set him off.
