Hades Story
The story, which will be especially interesting to players who love Greek mythology, is full of many characters we know.
Meet Hades
Hades' son Zagreus seeks to flee his father's domain in the Underworld. He is helped by his adoptive mother Nyx, who gives him a special mirror that grants him various abilities through collected Darkness; the Gods of Olympus to whom he has reached out, who provide him with Boons that grant him special powers; and his mentor Achilles, who gives him the Infernal Arms and the Codex, weapons that contain powerful and hidden aspects of their past, present, and future wielders.
Charon, who sells various support items and also employs the skeleton dummy Skelly to assist, the departed residents of the Underworld: Sisyphus, Eurydice, and Patroclus, who give Zagreus gifts along the way up, and Thanatos, who goes against Hades to occasionally assist Zagreus, are all helpful to Zagreus. The Fury Megaera, Zagreus' ex-lover in Tartarus; a Lernean Bone Hydra in Asphodel; the legendary Theseus alongside his new partner Asterius in Elysium; and finally Hades himself on the surface, all obstruct Zagreus' progress.
Things are Heating Up
Zagreus finally reveals that he would like to leave the Underworld to find Persephone. Persephone is his birth mother. Hades won't allow Persephone's name to be mentioned in his presence and any person who does so will face unimaginable consequences. Nyx, however, offers to help Zagreus discover the truth about his mother and puts him in touch with his Olympus family. After defeating Hades, Zagreus discovers Persephone in Greece in a cottage protected by Nyx's power. After a heartfelt reunion, Zagreus discovers that he, too, is bound to the Underworld, and can't survive on the surface for very long. He vows to keep escaping, to visit Persephone and find the truth about Persephone's disappearance.
Persephone says that she was married to Hades for a loving union. This was due to Zeus giving her the Underworld as a gift. However, Zagreus was stillborn because the Fates decided that Hades would not have an heir. Persephone fled in grief to Nyx's assistance, but she refused the offer to return to Olympus. She hated Olympus because of its constant bickering and posturing by the Gods. After Nyx and her daughters, Nyx made a deal, Zagreus was finally brought back to life by Nyx's power. It took an extremely long time.
Persephone is reluctant to return to the Underworld as she fears retribution from the Olympians against Hades, the Underworld, and her mother Demeter who has covered the mortal world with an interminable winter of mourning for her daughter. Zagreus finally persuades Persephone to return to the Underworld by reminding her of her family ties. They sail from Greece on the River Styx and are ferried by Charon to the House of Hades. Persephone is back in her Queen of the Underworld duties. Hades, who now has a renewed respect, allows Zagreus, House Security Specialist in Underworld, to continue his escape attempts.
As more people run to the surface, Zagreus is closer to them. He also actively works to improve the House. Sisyphus is freed from his torture, Orpheus and his muse Eurydice are reunited, Achilles, Patroclus, and Nyx are reunited and Nyx can reconcile with her father Primordial Chaos. He begins to feel for Megaera, Thanatos, and Dusa, the Housemaid, and eventually confesses his romantic feelings for them. Dusa then turns down his offer and decides to become friends with him. He also makes friends with the Olympian Gods and does favors for them. Persephone asked that Zagreus and Hades reconcile their relationships and be cordial. Each of the people Zagreus has made friends with gives him a keepsake as a token of their love and gratitude.
Epilogue
After Zagreus strengthened his relationship with them, Persephone comes up with the idea of reconciling with the Olympians by inviting them all to a feast in the House of Hades. They claim that Hades and Persephone eloped and had Zagreus, but they leave out Persephone's resentment of Olympus and add a false claim that she can only leave the Underworld for a few months of the year because she ate Underworld pomegranate seeds. The Olympians readily accept this explanation, implying that they are aware of the truth and simply want to move on. With everyone reconciled, Zagreus' new mission to flee his homeland continues.
