Elden Ring Ashes of War and Their Locations

Ashes of War are special items that can be combined to make Weapons that will set a specific skill and determine the damage type of the weapon.

To modify their affinities or grant new skills, players can apply Ashes of War on their Weapons and/or Shields. This allows players the ability to customize each type of weapon to suit their Build and playstyle.

How to use Ashes of War in Elden Ring?

Select the Ashes of War menu at a Site of Grace. This menu only becomes available after you collect your first Ash of War. You can preview the ash effect on your weapon or shield and then choose to apply the skill or skill with the effect. Ashes of War is essentially about scaling your gear according to your character's stats.

You can also remove the ashes from your weapon/shield again at a Site of Grace. Go to the "Ashes of War" tab and click on "Weapon/Shield". Select remove enchantment to remove the Ash of War effects and restore the original scale and Weapon/Shift skill.

It is important to remember that Ashes of War cannot be infused into Bows, Light Bows or Glintstone Staves and Sacred Seals. Unique weapons like the Dragonscale Blade can't have their Skills or Prefix modified either. The weapon you want to infuse Ash of War with should be a standart weapon.

You can find multiple copies of the same Ashes of War, allowing you to enchant several Weapons or Shields with the same Ashes of War, but otherwise you can only apply 1 Ashes of War to 1 Weapon or Shield at a time. If you wish to reassign it to another Weapon or Shield, you'll have to remove it first in the Ashes of War tab.

The Ashes of War & Where to Find Them

You can obtain Ashes of War within Elden Ring in two ways. They can either drop from enemies and bosses or looted from corpses scattered throughout the game. And Ashes of War do not drop randomly. If you know where they are located, they will always be available in any playthrough. This allows you to quickly get your Build up and running.

ASH OF WAR: GLINTSWORD ARCH

Ash of War: Glintsword Arch gives the Magic affinity as well as the Glintsword Arc Skill. It increases Magic Damage and adds Intelligence scaling, but reduces base damage and STR / DEX scaling. It can be used with all thrusting armaments.

ASH OF WAR: BARRICADE SHIELD

Barricade Shield: Barricade Shield offers the Standard affinity as well as the Barricade Shield Skill. Respects weapon's original scaling and damage. It can be used with any type of shield.

Dropped by Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in Forlon Hound Evergaol, Stormhill.

ASH OF WAR: THE THUNDERBOLT

Ash of War Thunderbolt grants the Lightning affinity and the Thunderbolt skill. This skill adds lightning damage, but lowers base damage and STR scaling. It can be used with all melee armaments.

Can be found on the cliffs on the side path right before Stormveil Castle gate, guarded by Bladed Talon Eagles.

ASH OF WAR: PIERCING FANG

Ash of War: Piercing Fang offers both the Keen affinity as well as the Piercing Fang Skill. It increases DEX scaling but decreases STR damage and base damage. It can be used with thrust armaments.

Can be found at Limgrave. Bloody Finger Hunter Yura encounter

ASH OF WAR: STORM BLADE

Ash of War: Storm Blade gives you the Quality affinity as well as the Storm Blade Skill. Balances Strength, Dexterity and Base Damage. It can be used with all standard slashing weapon armaments.

ASH OF WAR: REPEATING TRUST

Repeating Thrust: Ash of War Provides the Keen affinity as well as the Repeating Thrust skill. It increases DEX scaling but decreases Strength damage and base damage.

Can be found in an underground cellar in Gatefront Ruins, Limgrave.
